SafeKey Service Components

SafeKey comprises several components that work together to deliver a secure and reliable password management service. While most customers don’t need to know how everything works behind the scenes, understanding the basics can help you get the most value from the service—especially given the importance of security.

At a high level, SafeKey has two core components:

  • the Server Component, and

  • the Workstation Components.

Most customers interact only with workstation components, but many are interested in how the server-side is designed, particularly from a security perspective.

Server Components

One key feature that sets SafeKey apart is that each customer has a dedicated instance.

Rather than running a single shared system used by many organisations, SafeKey creates a completely separate installation for every customer. Each installation is known as a “vault”, much like a physical safe used to store valuables. This vault securely stores your passwords and other sensitive digital information.

SafeKey is hosted in our New Zealand–based data centre, which comprises multiple servers across multiple locations. This design provides resilience and fault tolerance, helping to minimise service interruptions.

The underlying server platform is enterprise-grade and scalable, allowingenabling us to increase resources for your individual vault ifas your business needs change over time.

Workstation Components

The workstation components are the parts of SafeKey that you and your team use day to day. These components securely connect to your dedicated SafeKey vault.

Most passwords are accessed and managed through a web-based interface. The web browser you use determines which recommended browser extensions are installed to make password access quick and seamless.BrowserSupport.png

In addition to desktop computers, SafeKey also supports mobile phones and tablets, allowing secure access to passwords when working remotely or on the move.
